Libraries reopen for studying on 8 June – advance booking required

Starting on Monday 8 June, people will be allowed to study in the various branches of Leipzig University Library again. To comply with social distancing, the number of people permitted to sit down and work at any one time will be reduced.

Desks must be booked in advance on Numbered desks can be booked on Friday 5 June in the library of your choice. Please present your booking (either printed or digitally) when you enter the library. To ensure possible infection routes can be traced afterwards, you must not change desks during your library session. Although wearing a face covering over your nose and mouth is mandatory on library premises, you may take it off at your desk.

From 4 June, closed-stack items for use in the reading room can be ordered again. Please note that items to be used in the reading room can only be issued if you have already booked a desk.

The only limitation applying to the booking system is that desks cannot be booked more than seven days in advance. The booking procedure may have to be modified depending on actual demand. We will of course announce any changes on our website and our social media channels.

You can also drop in to borrow and return items without booking. The number of visitors entering the libraries will continue to be regulated.

Our service counters will also reopen on 8 June. To reduce personal contact, you can also access our services via chat on the website, by phone and by email (
