The Library of Musicology at the Städtisches Kaufhaus site will be closed as a separate branch. The collections and on-site study spaces will remain available for use until 10 September 2026. The core collection of books, journals and music materials will in future be made freely accessible in the Campus Library (ground floor and second basement level). Other items will be stored in the stacks and can be requested for loan as required.
The relocation of the collection to the Campus Library is scheduled to take place between 21 and 30 September. The selection of the materials that will be freely accessible in future, the organisation of the move and the arrangement of the collection have been agreed with the Institute of Musicology and the student council. The materials freely accessible at their new location in the Campus Library from 1 October 2026.
The closure of the site is taking place as part of the ongoing site consolidation at Leipzig University Library. The aim of this process is to pool resources and thereby secure an efficient infrastructure for study, teaching and research in the long term. At the same time, this measure contributes to Leipzig University’s financial consolidation plan.
With the integration of the music collection into the open-access section of the Campus Library, these resources will in future be available at a central location with extended opening hours and automated borrowing and return facilities.
During the relocation phase, any required items can be requested at any time by emailing info@ub.uni-leipzig.de. Users will be notified as soon as the requested items are ready for collection at the Campus Library.
