What does it mean to grow up in times of war? Or to come of age as a refugee far from home? Do the familiar worries and joys of adolescence still find space in such circumstances?
The double exhibition explores these questions through photographs taken by young Ukrainians.
Curator Irynka Hromotska (Kyiv Independent) presents Coming of Age Amidst War, showcasing works by ten Ukrainian photographers who capture how young people in Ukraine navigate everyday live under bombardment, loss, and constant uncertainty.
Ukrainian Portraits, photographed by Sophie Meuresch and curated by the German-American Institute Saxony (DAIS), turns its lens on Ukrainians in Leipzig. These images testify both to vulnerability and to powerful acts of self-assertion.
The double exhibition was created in cooperation between the DAIS, the UBL, and America House Lviv with support from the Free State of Saxony and the German Foreign Office.
