Sexualised harassment in the Bibliotheca Albertina and Campus Library

2 March 2022

On 24 January 2022, the Leipzig University Library (UBL) informed about cases of sexualised harassment in the Bibliotheca Albertina and Campus Library, by actively addressing its patrons and the general public. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has passed on this information and stood up for a violence-free university. In the course of this broad public solidarity, important tips and criminal charges have reached the Leipzig police. They're examining these as part of the ongoing investigations.

In addition, on February 8, the Senate decided to set up a working group to deal with sexualised violence and discrimination at Leipzig University. The UBL will also be represented in this group. In our view, this is an important and sustainable step beyond the reported events.

We will keep you informed as further developments occur, feel free to follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Please report cases and observations of sexualised violence and other forms of discrimination at hilfe@ub.uni-leipzig.de. The UBL staff is here for you, please contact us in confidence.
