Open Digitization Policy

Leipzig University Library is determined to offer its patrons the best possible access to its collections and to support their use of them in their work. To this end, in the spirit of open access, it publishes digitized versions of its stocks no longer subject to copyright which may be used without restriction. This means:

  • Digitized works in the public domain which were created free of known copyright restrictions are designated as works in the public domain by means of the Public Domain Mark. Accordingly, Leipzig University Library does not assert any legal rights regarding the use of these digitized works and makes them publicly available without restriction. 
  • If the existence of copyright restrictions for digitized works in the public domain cannot be ruled out, they are published under Creative Commons licence CC0 1.0. Accordingly, Leipzig University Library waives all copyrights and related rights worldwide regarding these digitized works and makes them publicly available without restriction.
  • Metadata regarding digitized works (bibliographical data, structural data, etc.) is published under Creative Commons licence CC0 1.0. Accordingly, Leipzig University Library waives all copyrights and related rights worldwide regarding the metadata of digitized works and makes them publicly available without restriction.

Leipzig University Library’s digitized works published on the internet are available free of charge to anyone worldwide. For the sake of good scholarly practice, all users of our digitized content are requested to include full source references. Whenever our digitized content is used on websites, we would be pleased to receive a corresponding link by email; if our digitized content is used in academic publications, we would be delighted to receive a copy.
