Bequest of Werner Heisenberg
Between 2012 and 2015, the Archives of the Max Planck Society received several shipments of the bequest of Werner Heisenberg (1901–1976). The bequest is one of the most important collections on the History of science in the 20th century.
Due to the great scientific significance of the bequest in general and Heisenberg’s significance for the history of Leipzig University in particular, the Archives of the Max Planck Society, Leipzig University Library with its experience in conducting digitization projects, and the Institute of Physics at Leipzig University with its scientific expertise, decided to conduct a project for the in-depth cataloguing of the entire bequest of Heisenberg and the digitization of its the scientific part. The legacy of the renowned physicist includes around 340,000 pages in approximately 70,000 individual documents.
