Bequest of Arnt Wustmann

The bequest includes a comprehensive collection of documents from Leipzig families (Baumann, Ludwig, Sachse, and Wustmann) and has been deposited with the Leipzig University Library since 2011. In 2013, the library also acquired the significant collection of 209 autographs from the 18th to the 20th centuries that Arnt Wustmann had collected.

The autograph collection includes a large number of outstanding items. Notable are the autographs of musicians such as Johannes Brahms, Fryderyk Chopin, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Max Reger, Giacomo Meyerbeer, Franz Lehár, Giacomo Puccini, Carl Orff, Franz Liszt, Clara and Robert Schumann. In addition, the collection includes a wide range of letters from scholars and writers, including Karl Lamprecht, Heinrich Heine, Wilhelm von Humboldt, Victor von Scheffel, Gustav Freytag, Edwin Bormann, and Gerhart Hauptmann. Finally, the visual arts are also represented, including the Leipzig architect Hugo Licht, Adolph von Menzel, Max Klinger, Franz von Defregger, Gottfried Semper, and architects of the modern era such as Walter Gropius and Le Corbusier. Autographs of politicians, including Otto von Bismarck, Theobald von Bethmann-Hollweg, and Hjalmar Schacht, round out the collection.
