Loan periods and fines

The service team from Leipzig University Library will be delighted to assist you regarding any questions about borrowing, returning and renewing library materials as well as fines for overdue items. You will be sent an e-mail reminder three days before the due date to help you manage your account and avoid any fines. You can return your items at any branch. Except interlibrary loans and books from the reference collection.

If you are unable to return an item in time, please contact us. Although we can't always avoid imposing a fine, we will always try to reach a favourable solution within our regulations. You can contact us personally at the service counters in the libraries or by chat, phone or email info@ub.uni-leipzig.de

The standard loan period is 30 days for the circulating collection, 7 days for items of the reference collection (green tag).

Renewal up to six times is allowed for circulating items, three times for items of the reference collection. Please log on to your library account to renew items.

For faculty and PhD students of Leipzig University, different loan periods apply.

All library materials are subject to recall. If a recall has been placed on an item you have borrowed, you will be notified by email. You cannot renew it and you must return the item by the due date to avoid fines. It is therefore recommended to return library materials before leaving campus for a week or longer in order to avoid fines.

Materials which cannot be borrowed:

  • All journals
  • Materials published before 1920
