Since June 2024, the Library subscribes to scite_ai thanks to the financial support of the Faculty of Medicine. Scite is an artificial intelligence (AI) tool that enables researchers, students, and professionals to evaluate scientific claims, understand citation contexts, and uncover biases. With a comprehensive database of over 1.2 billion citations from 187 million articles, book chapters, preprints, and datasets, Scite offers a valuable tool for enhancing research work.
Key Features of scite_ai:
- Search Citations: This feature allows users to search various metadata and full-text citations. Users can quickly find specific studies or data points and assess the credibility and impact of research findings. Detailed citation contexts facilitate thorough literature analysis and the identification of new trends or debates.
- Custom Dashboards: Users can create personalized collections of articles tailored to their research interests. These dashboards provide an organized overview of relevant studies and publications, facilitate collaboration, and ensure quick access to essential information.
- Reference Check: This feature reviews how references in a manuscript are used to ensure they are accurate and relevant. It helps identify misinterpretations or misuse of sources, thereby increasing the manuscript's credibility and reliability.
- Journal Metrics: This feature provides insights into the performance of journals, including citation counts and impact factors. Users can identify leading journals and influential articles in their field and align their publication strategies accordingly.
- Assistant: The Assistant uses large language models and the Scite database to optimize research. It offers contextual insights, minimizes the risk of misinformation, and assists in content creation.
- Browser Extension: This extension shows how research articles have been cited while browsing the internet. Users can highlight claims and ask the Scite Assistant for supporting or contradictory evidence, which is particularly useful for quickly assessing the credibility of sources.
Access:
Access to the premium version of Scite is granted with no restrictions to all users who sign up under scite.ai with an email account of the domain @medizin.uni-leipzig.de. Furthermore, everyone can use the premium version of Scite at all locations of the UB, of the UKL and of the Medicine Faculty.
The functions and capabilities of Scite have been presented during the kick-off meeting on June 17th, 2024. The recording of the meeting is available here.
The technical details of Scite are described in this article.
